My first accident.

At 5:53am this Thursday morning I experience my first accident. It is nothing I am proud of as I consider myself to be a very good driver. I was driving to work when I was attempting to switch lanes when a large SUV decided he wasn't going to let me in and be cut me off. Cut me off to the point where I had three choices; hit the guy in front of me, hit the guy cutting me off or hitting the brakes. I hit the brakes.

As I hit the brakes I slid out of control making first contact with a parking sign which knocked off my front bumper, then finally came to a stop as I found myself in my car which spun into the fence of a house right off of greenwood ave.

I guess I should be lucky that no other party was involved and that I wasn't physically harmed, but I am now carless until I find out what my car is worth to fix.

Moral of this story is to drive safe and it's better to get somewhere a little bit late rather than not getting there at all.

And by the way I hate this damn snow.

Leave Tiger Woods Alone

Earlier this morning I was watching ESPN as I regularly do in the afternoon, and saw Tiger Woods addressing the scandal betwen he, his wife and all the girls he had relations with. I couldn't help but think to myself, who cares?

We look at athletes as role models in this country, but why? They aren't out there saving the world or taking part in government issues, they are out there doing what they do best, competing as athletes in there sport. We put these athletes on pedestals, expecting them to never do anything wrong. We seem to forget they are people just like me and you and people do make mistakes. But unlike the everyday blue-collar worker these athletes face temptations, most likely on a daily basis.

With the media being the way it is today, with coverage on every little detail in peoples lives, the privacy will no longer be granted to these athletes. It's unfortunate.

What to do...Thousands of Feet in the Sky

I just recently booked my flight for Spring Break '10. Destination: Los Angeles. My 21st birthday is March 6th and my flight is for March 17th, so I will be able to go out legally while in LA to bars and have a few celebration drinks. I'm not a huge drinker by all means, I am more a social drinker than anything and enjoy a beer here and there, but I will take exception that weekend and party it up.

I'm faced with a dilemma though. I am a horrible flyer. I envy those people who could go on a plane and sleep the whole ride there. How do they do it? I have to be up and alert as to what is going on around me, but by being up the whole ride, it takes a lot longer. So I have recently started downloading some music for my 6 hour flight to LA, in hopes that it will but me at ease on my trip to LA, yet steadily move time along.

This past summer my sister, my mother and myself drove to Ontario, Canada for a wedding. In the car I downloaded the latest season of the HBO show Entourage on iTunes, to put on my iPhone which worked perfectly. The only bad thing about that, is the video takes up more battery than the audio does, so I don't want my phone dying midflight.

So I'm a pretty big music fan, mainly hip-hop, rock, alternative, and some country (Zac Brown Band) being my favorites. I have downloaded the Zac Brown Band cd "The Foundation", as well as all the Eminem CD's, since I lost them all except for "Encore". I also downloaded the Jay-Z pack, "The Blueprint Collection", to add to my music library. So it's safe to say I have about 1,200 songs on my iPhone. BUT I NEED MORE!!!!

If you guys want send me some suggestions of some good music and I will likely add it to my iPhone.

Super Bowl Sunday, Commercials or The Game Itslelf?

As we come closer to the biggest annual television event, The Super Bowl, the debate is brought up, are you watching it for the game or the commercials?

When multi-million dollar companies know the volume of an audience they're working with, it becomes a prime time to advertise. We have seen classic commercials on Super Bowl Sunday, the GoDaddy.com commercials, hilarious beer commercials, and there is always that one commercial that stirs up controversy, that everyone Monday morning is talking about. No other show or program on television gets viewers excited to see commercials, like the Super Bowl is able to do. And the price tag on these commercials is not chump change either. I believe the average price tag on a thirty second spot is a million plus. These commercials don't star the guy from the ShamWow commercials either, they usually have big names involved. I read on Yahoo! this morning, the 'The Situation', from the MTV show, The Jersey Shore, is in a commercial with Peyton Manning. Say what!? You're combining the biggest name in reality television in 2010 with the biggest name in the game on Super Sunday. You will never see a commercial like that during any single prime time show.

Click here a YouTube link of the top commercials of the '09 Super Bowl.

BUT, as an avid football fan, I am always going to look forward to the game and have the commercials act as just a plus to the game itself. When you think about it, the hype around this game is unlike any other sporting event. These players that will be playing for both the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts, dream about this game since they were little children playing in pee-wee football. Now, on this Sunday for 60 minutes, they will give every ounce of blood to win this ONE game. They know they will be playing in front of thousands at the stadium itself, plus the millions viewing at home, so the excitement will be there.

You also have arguably the best quarterback of all time in Peyton Manning, playing against the newer superstar in Drew Brees. Fireworks are bound to happen. The guy manning the scoreboard has to be ready as these teams, hopefully will light up the scoreboard. Those two guys alone are enough reason to tune in Sunday.

I believe the Colts are going to win because having Peyton Manning on the field is like having a coach out there. You give this guy a week and he tears apart defenses week in and week out. Now that he gets two weeks to figure out this weak Saints defense, it should be lights out for "Who Dat" nation. Although, I like the story behind the Saints with the whole Hurricane Katrina, and what a championship will do for that team, I feel as if they've accomplished enough on just making it there. Prediction: Colts 34 Saints 27. It'll be a damn good game.

So I'd like to know, what are you looking forward to more the game or the commercials?

Also, what are your favorite commercials from past Super Bowl Sundays?

TV Sunday

As a college student I always find myself rushing to get homework and papers done that Sunday night before it is due. I use Fridays and Saturdays as my days to go out so not much attention is put into doing work. The bad thing about putting off work til that Sunday is that is when all the good stuff is on TV. For instance this week as I struggle to put the finishing touches on my paper I'm watching Lady Gaga sing with Elton John with dirt on their faces. On the other hand, the Pro Bowl is taking place on ESPN and I find myself in a classic debate of what to watch. While I should be doing homework.

I think procrastination is one of the number one problems with students, I know it is atleast to me. Yet I always find time to get it done, some how, some way.

Lady Gaga in my opinion is one weird girl. I don't mean weird as the stuff she says. Weird, in the way she goes to the nearest garbage can to pick out an outfit. I have to admit though she is a great performer. Heck, my mom even has her CD in the car.

Since the MTV music awards happened, I've always been more interested in these kinds of award shows. Well, more interested if Kanye West is there so we can have some classic moments again. But, as I'm watching the Grammy's right now he got what he wanted because, Beyonce "has the best song of all year."

When people accept awards I always think it's funny how music comes over the speakers as if to say "Shut up and get off our stage," when their speeches drag on too long.

I guess it's time for me to quit watching this crap and get work done.

Adios.

Here Come The Hawks...The Mighty Blaaaaaaackhawks

Normally during this time of year I am all ampt up about the NFL playofss. Not this year. My team (besides Da Bears) The Dallas Cowboys got embarrased by the team in purple last Sunday. The Bulls, who are still trying to find their identity, are my favorite basketball team, but have never gained back my interest since MJ left. Usually after the Super Bowl, the days slowly go by until I find myself in icy weather for the April start of the White Sox home opener.

I've struggled to find my sports fix to keep me busy from the NFL to the MLB season. Three names have filled that void: Kane, Toews and Hossa. If you are not familiar with these names you better get familiar. Arguably the best team in the NHL right now are our Chicago Blackhawks.

People walking past me wouldn't picture me as a Blackhawks fan, let alone a hockey fan. Before this year I would have to say that I didn't see myself as a hockey fan either. That all changed when the Blackhawks played the Calgary Flames at the United Center towards the end of last year.

It was Monday October 12, 2009 when I found myself sporting a black Blackhawks shirt on my way to the United Center on Madison. My buddy has always been a die-hard Blackhawks fan and quizzed me on players names on the way there. I faired poorly as I only got a few names right. I told him "Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa, Cristobal Huet, The Buff-Man (Dustin Byfuglien) and..." I drew a blank. He was impressed I knew so many.

There is just something about pulling up to a stadium that just sends chills throughout my body. I don't think that it's weird at all? We then walked in the doors to the stadium, went up the escalators with pictures of old and new Hawks hockey stars hanging from the ceiling, throught the mezzanine and down another flight of stairs, through an opening and then boom. You walk through a curtain and you see it. A big scoreboard and a big ice rink with the most storied logo in all of sports.

This was my first ever professional hockey game, as I have seen numerous amounts of Chicago Wolves games previously. The Hawks and Flames came out to do their pre-game warm-ups and get ready. Then the fun began. The Canadian national anthem was played and then passed. Then came the "Oh, say can you see...", and I've never heard anything louder before in my life. The crowd yells during the national anthem, which is something that has to be experienced first-hand to get the full effect. The introductions began and the game was on.

I will NEVER forget how the beginning of the game went. Before I could even get comfortable in my seat the scoreboard read, Flames 5 Hawks 0. I asked my friend, "are we really this bad?" The first period ended and the Hawks finally scored a goal, making the score a lousy 5 to 1.

I guess the Blackhawks forgot they had a game that night and in the locker room before the 2nd period began they realized there was a game going on. The came out that third period and lit up the Flames for 3 more goals. Flames 5 Hawks 4.

During the first period I had gotten a pretty big drink, only $8.50 was necessary to buy it, but by the third period began I had to use the bathroom. Not being a smart fan I decided to go while the game was going on. Bad idea. I missed Patrick Sharp's game tying goal, and heard a loud cheer while I was standing in the bathroom. End of 3 periods. Flames 5 Hawks 5.

Now the crowd was really into it and so was I. I had taken numerous pictures on my iPhone, and stopped checking my Fantasy Football score. I had turned into a hockey fan, and a big Blackhawks fan. This team was exciting and the fact that they fought back to tie the game up showed alot of heart.

26 seconds into overtime and little would you know Brent Seabrook, lit up the Flames for a 6th and final goal in the most thrilling game I have ever seen.

And that is the type of excitement that I look forward to in those dull months/days leading up to the MLB season.
